Am I eligible to do this transaction? What types of appeals can I file on-line?

What information and documents do I need to do this transaction on-line?

Can I do this transaction on-line if my address changed?

Yes, but the address you enter or update in this transaction, does not change your address on your DMV driver license or vehicle records. Read the instructions to change your address on DMV documents and records.

Can I do this transaction on-line if I changed my name?

Yes, but when you file the appeal, you must use the name that is on the traffic ticket that you appeal. Read the instructions to change your name on DMV documents and records.

Is this transaction always available? What are the hours for this transaction?

This transaction is normally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is the cost to do this transaction on-line? Does the DMV charge a higher fee to do this transaction on-line?

There is no additional cost to do this transaction on-line.  The Appeal Fee you pay on-line is the same fee that you would pay to file an appeal by mail.

How do I pay the Appeal Fee On-line?

You must use a credit card or an acceptable debit card to pay for this transaction on-line. The DMV accepts these credit cards:

American Express Discover MasterCard Visa

You can use a debit card if the debit card was issued by MasterCard® or Visa® and the card does not require you to enter a personal identification number (PIN).

Does the DMV protect my credit card information and my personal information on the Internet?

The DMV uses secure socket layering (SSL) to protect your information. The DMV encrypts your credit card information and your personal information so other Internet users cannot read the information. Read the DMV Privacy and Security Statement.

How do I know the amount that is charged to my credit card?

The Appeal Fee is $10. Your credit card will be charged exactly $10 for each appeal you file.

The amount of the payment is displayed on the confirmation page, the confirmation e-mail message, and your credit card statement.

Why do I need a confirmation number?
How will I know if my transaction was processed?
Will I receive a receipt or proof that my transaction was processed?

You need your Confirmation Number if you contact the DMV about your on-line transaction. After you complete the transaction, you will see a confirmation page in your browser window. The confirmation page displays your Confirmation Number and other information about your transaction.

When the confirmation page appears in your browser window, write your Confirmation Number on a piece of paper. Do not try to print or to reload the confirmation page until you first record the confirmation number. Some browsers can erase your transaction information from the page if you try to print or to reload this page.

The confirmation page can take several seconds to appear. If the confirmation page does not appear immediately, do not select the button to submit your payment again. If you select the button more than one time, you can receive an error message. Wait for the confirmation page to appear.

Your Confirmation Number also appears in the e-mail confirmation message that you will receive after you submit your payment.

How do I view the status of my appeal on-line?

To view the status of your appeal, access the transaction and enter the ticket number and the Client Identification Number (CID) or name and date of birth you entered to file the appeal.

How do I update my appeal information after I have filed my appeal on-line?

To update your mailing address or your attorney information, access the transaction again. Enter the ticket number and the Client Identification Number (CID) or name and date of birth you entered to file the appeal and your three-digit Appeal Access Number.

How do I submit an additional Appeal Argument after I have filed my appeal on-line?

To submit an additional Appeal Argument after you filed your appeal on-line, access the transaction again. Enter the ticket number and the Client Identification Number (CID) or name and date of birth you entered to file the appeal and your three-digit Appeal Access Number.

You cannot edit your original Appeal Argument or any previous Additional Appeal Arguments, but you can submit additional arguments until the deadline for arguments. For a Full Appeal, the deadline for additional Appeal Arguments is 30 days from the date of the letter the Transcriber sends you with your transcript.

How do I submit additional exhibits or arguments that cannot be submitted in the on-line transaction?

To submit exhibits or arguments that cannot be submitted through the on-line transaction:

  1. If you submit the additional exhibits and/or arguments at the time you file the appeal on-line, check the box in the transaction that indicates that you will mail additional exhibits and/or arguments for your appeal.
  2. If you order a transcript for your appeal, you must mail the additional exhibits and/or arguments to the Appeals Board within 30 days after the transcript you ordered has been sent to you.
  3. If you do not want or need a transcript, you must mail the exhibits and/or arguments within 10 days of the day you submit your appeal.
  4. The Appeals Board uses the US Postal Service postmark, if legible, to determine if your documents are timely. Keep your proof of mailing and a copy of anything you send to the Appeals Board.
  5. Write the summons number of the appealed ticket on the front of the envelope and on all exhibits and/or arguments.
  6. Mail your documents to: Appeals Processing Unit, P.O. Box 2935, Albany, NY 12220-0935

What is the Appeal Access Number?

The Appeal Access number is a three-digit number that is displayed on the Confirmation Message page at the end of the transaction, and in the transaction confirmation e-mail.

Can I cancel this transaction?

No. After you select the button to verify the selections you made, or the button that displays the words "Submit My Payment," your transaction is processed. You cannot cancel the transaction after you verify your selections or submit your payment.

Can I get a refund of the Appeal Fee?

No. The fee is not refundable for any reason. When you submit your appeal, it does not mean your appeal will be accepted. Completion of this web transaction does not mean your appeal has been accepted. The DMV Appeals Board can reject your appeal if:
