DMV RELEASES CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY
Overall Results Indicate High Customer Approval, Especially With Internet Services

Commissioner Nancy A. Naples of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced the results of the 2006 DMV Customer Satisfaction Survey.  Nearly 800 respondents from across New York State participated, indicating high customer approval in all areas, with Internet services ranking the highest.

"The DMV is committed to providing the best customer service in the most professional manner possible to the motoring public," Commissioner Naples said.  "Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Department staff, we are continuing to improve how we provide services for the people of New York."

The survey measured customer satisfaction for DMV offices across New York State including Traffic Violation Bureaus, Vehicle Safety Field Offices, Operations District Offices, the DMV Central Office and County Clerk's Offices.  The survey also measured motorists' satisfaction with the DMV's Internet, direct mail and telephone services.  The survey was administered by an independent third party during a 60 day period beginning in March.

Overall, results indicate that more than 84 percent of New Yorkers surveyed rated their satisfaction with DMV as "Excellent" or "Good", an increase of 2 percent over the previous year. More than 85 percent ranked DMV office service as "Excellent" or "Good" and 91 percent ranked DMV's mail service to be "Excellent" or "Good".

The most impressive response from New Yorkers indicated that a full 97 percent of those surveyed ranked the DMV's Internet Office as "Excellent" or "Good", an increase of five percent over the 2005 survey.

"The Department of Motor Vehicles continues to be a leader in implementing Governor George Pataki's 'Government Without Walls' Internet services initiative," Commissioner Naples said.  "By providing New Yorkers with the opportunity to conduct State business from the comfort of their own home when their busy schedules allow, we are once again providing superior customer service and convenience."
