New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Executive Deputy Commissioner Renato Donato, Jr. today announced that automobile dealers, inspection stations, repair shops and other DMV regulated facilities can now renew their official business certificates online by visiting the DMV's website at www.nysdmv.com. The ability to renew official business certificates is the latest of more than 20 services offered online by the DMV and is another step forward in achieving Governor George E. Pataki's goal of making important services available through the Internet.

"The Department of Motor Vehicles continues to be a leader in implementing Governor Pataki's 'Government Without Walls' Internet services initiative and today's announcement reflects our continued commitment to providing the best possible services to the motoring public," Commissioner Donato said.  "The ability to renew business certificates, driver licenses, registrations and other important documents through the DMV's website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week allows us to provide the most convenient service in the most professional manner."

Auto related facilities are able to renew online with valid certificates issued by the DMV's Division of Vehicle Safety Services.  Auto/auto body repair shops, dealers and motor vehicle inspection stations are among those eligible to renew business certificates through the DMV's website.  Facility certificates can also be renewed online if the certificate will expire within 60 days or expired within the last six months.

Approximately 2,000 businesses renew their facility certificates each month and the new online service will allow these businesses to complete a paperless transaction 24 hours, 7 days a week.  New certificates will be mailed to the facility within seven to ten business days after submitting the online application.

The DMV offers opportunities for New Yorkers to renew vehicle registrations, replace lost titles and license documents, schedule road tests, order custom plates and more through the Internet.
