What information and documents do I need to do this transaction on-line?

To use this transaction, your web browser must permit cookies.

To provide insurance Information on-line, you must have the following items or information:

Can I submit proof from another state?

No. The insurance must be liability coverage for New York State issued by an insurer authorized by the NYS DMV.

How will I know if my response satisfied the inquiry letter and the matter is closed?

After you submit your insurance information on-line, DMV will verify your insurance coverage with the insurance company. If you do not receive correspondence from DMV within 30 days, the information you provided was acceptable and the matter was closed.

How will I know if my suspension or revocation order has been cleared?

You will receive a notice of restoration in the mail.

Are my records updated immediately?

No. Your vehicle registration records will be updated the business day after your transaction. If your driver license record is updated, the update occurs two business days after your transaction.

How can I submit my information if I cannot submit it on-line?

Can I do this transaction on-line if my address changed?

Yes, but if the DMV sends you a notice about your insurance lapse suspension or revocation by mail, it will go to the address on your DMV registration record and driver license record.

Can I do this transaction on-line if I changed my name?

Yes, but if the DMV sends you a notice about your insurance lapse suspension or revocation by mail, it will be mailed using your previous name.

How can I determine the status of my vehicle registration or driver license?

If the DMV clears a suspension or revocation of your vehicle registration or driver license as a result of this transaction, it does not guarantee that your vehicle registration or driver license is valid.

You can check the status of your insurance case on-line.

To determine the status of your driver license, learner permit or driving privileges, you can order your driver abstract. You can use form MV-15 to request a vehicle registration abstract.

This transaction is normally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is the cost to do this transaction on-line?

There is no fee to do this transaction on-line.

Why do I need a Confirmation Number?
How will I know if my transaction was processed?
Will I receive a receipt or proof that my transaction was processed?

You need your Confirmation Number if you contact the DMV about your on-line transaction. After you complete the transaction, you will see a confirmation page in your browser window. The confirmation page displays your Confirmation Number and other information about your transaction.

When the confirmation page appears in your browser window, write your Confirmation Number on a piece of paper. Do not try to print or to reload the confirmation page. Some browsers can erase your transaction information from the page if you try to print or to reload this page.

The confirmation page can take several seconds to appear. If the confirmation page does not appear immediately, do not select the button to submit your payment again. If you select the button more than one time, you can receive an error message. Wait for the confirmation page to appear.

Your Confirmation Number also appears in the e-mail confirmation message that you will receive after you submit your payment.

Can I cancel this transaction?

No. After you select the button to submit your insurance information, your transaction is processed. You cannot cancel the transaction after you verify your selections or submit your payment.

If you make a mistake in the insurance information you submit, you can contact the DMV on-line.
